A holiday in Morocco is very much an ideal starting
point for the traveller to Africa. An easy journey from Europe,
it is a frenetic environment but also friendly, stimulating
and extends
a warm welcome to visitors. There is an excellent selection of
quality package holidays to Morocco and also a fair selection
of cheap holiday
breaks. All-inclusive holidays to Morocco are now becoming
more popular. There
is a good selection of villas, hotels or apartments in Morocco,
and shopping enthusiasts can visit the open-air markets throughout
the
country, stocked high with rugs, woodwork, jewellery and leather
that are regarded as the softest in the world.
Tangier, Casablanca and Marrakesh are just some of the names of
Moroccan cities to stir a hint of spice in the air. Morocco
is surrounded
by myth, and for very good reason. The country’s unique living
history, its dazzling light and its unique art enthral travellers.
Morocco is still a fascinating mix of different religions and
cultures. Add some pleasant cities, stunning landscapes, colourful
people,
and superb beaches, excellent trekking, lots of interesting shopping
and there is something for everyone.
The climate in Morocco varies from location to location. The
coast has a generally warm, Mediterranean climate tempered
on the eastern
coast by the south-west trade winds. Inland is hotter and drier
with a more continental climate.
Marrakesh
A holiday to Marrakesh will enable you to visit Djemaa el Fna,
the wackiest square in Morocco, where assorted entertainers put
on performances and in the evening food stalls serve excellent
local cuisine. The souk (market) is the best place to find good
quality crafts. It is possible to locate quality cheap holidays
to Marrakesh.
Agadir
Situated in southern Morocco, this holiday destination is famed
for its golden beaches. The old city of Agadir is a beautiful
white town with wide boulevards, fine shops and hotels, lush
parks and
gardens. It feels like the French Riviera rather than the North
African coast. A holiday to Agadir is a laid back experience
with a fantastic beach, good restaurants and a decent nightlife.
It
is a good starting point for both a relaxing holiday and exploration
of other areas of southern Morocco. Package holidays to Agadir
and some value for money cheap holidays can be picked up if selected
wisely.
Casablanca
A huge modern city with not much ethnic interest bar the biggest
mosque in the world and the old quarter. You can find some
cheap holidays to Casablanca but selecting the cheapest holiday
on
the market needs careful consideration.
Rabat
The capital of Morocco. Rabat is smaller than Casablanca and
much more visitor-friendly, though surprisingly still not high on
most people’s
agenda to visit when on holiday in Morocco. Rabat has a relaxed,
hassle free atmosphere, has one or two interesting sights and many
pleasant cafés.
Morocco Holiday Activities
Trekking
Ranging from short half-hour walks to long and tiring 5-10
day treks, Morocco is a trekking paradise. Treks can be
organised in Morocco's High Atlas Mountains by your specialist
travel
guide
based in the Ourika Valley. Camel trekking is also widely
available in Morocco. This can be arranged at relevant
desert hotels
or tourist
offices. Best time for Camel trekking is September - October.
Rock Climbing
The Todra Gorge, near Tinehir, is excellent for some quality rock
climbing. Please be advised to seek local guidance before setting
out on any rock climbing in Morocco.
Water sports
Popular resorts on the coast such as Agadir and Asilah are very
good for water sports, windsurfing and surfing. Please note that winds
at Essaouira are regular and can be very strong.
Skiing
For a skiing holiday in Morocco, the resort of Oukaimeden, 70kms from
Marrakesh, is a very popular skiing destination.
