a very attractive holiday destination with many interesting places

City Breaks
Very popular in Germany and most of their major cities can offer
these short breaks. Cologne with its wonderful cathedral is an
exiting place to visit. Many people adore its modern shops together
with its busy bars and restaurants. For those looking for peaceful
pursuits there are many quiet museums and municipal gardens. It
is also a good starting point from which to explore the Rhine Valley
especially the steamer excursions. Lastly the world famous carnival
takes place in February and this has now become an international
event.
Berlin
Now Germany’s capital city since the reunification and renowned
for its nightlife which is very exciting. It is a thriving centre
for modern art and architecture and combined with its decadent
past makes Berlin a very special place to be. Berlin has over 170
museums and also three internationally famed opera houses. Obviously
many visitors wish to visit the relics and monuments of the last
great war such as the the new Reichstag and the Potsdamer Platz
and also experience the regeneration of the east of the city.
Munich
The capital of Bavaria in the south of the country, this is a city
where you can feel totally relaxed and enjoy the warmth of the
special hospitality offered. Munich is world renowned for its “Oktoberfest” Beer
Festival although it has to be stressed that lovers of culture
and shopping are equally well catered for. Many people wish to
take advantage of the many museums which architecturally can
be compared with any worldwide. The Nymphenburg Palace with its
park and famous Rocotto hunting lodge come to mind.
With regard to the beer festival it actually starts towards the
end of September when the breweries with their horse-drawn carriages
and various folk groups parade through the streets in their traditional
costumes. In addition to the marquees at the beer festival on the
same site is a giant fun-fair which combined with free flowing
music adds to the spectacle.
River Cruises
Cruises down the Rhine Valley offer luxury holidays for 4/5 and 8
days. The vessels are specially designed and provide wonderful
facilities; they are basically a luxurious floating hotel. If you
are looking for a leisurely holiday in Germany which offers stunning scenery
including the Rhine Vineyards and magnificent medieval castles,
this is the one for you.
Bavaria
Offering many wonderful alpine locations with bracing fresh
air and magnificent views over Bavaria. Most well-known internationally is Garmisch and Mittenwald where you can combine the village atmosphere
together with the trappings of an international resort. These
German holidays are especially suitable for walkers and there are many
miles of well maintained and sign posted footpaths. Obviously
in this region many wish to take the opportunity to visit the
town of Berchtesgarden which lies beneath the craggy Watzmann,
and visit Hitler’s home known as the “Eagles Nest” which
is located high in the mountains above the town. This site also
offers panoramic views of the Bavarian and Austrian Alps.
Other Regions
Saxony is the region in the east of Germany where the cities of
Dresden and Leipzig are to be found they are gradually being restored
to their former glorious past, especially Dresden.
Colditz Castle is in this area and there are also many fine churches
and museums to visit.
Baden-Wurtemberg is the region where you can find the famous university
town of Heidenburg and the Black Forest. Also in this area is the
spa town of Baden Baden together with the large palace of Ludwigsburg
which is renowned for the Baroque park and gardens. The capital
city of this region is Stuttgart which is famous for the manufacture
of Porsche and Mercedes cars.
Hesse
This region covers the middle of Germany and is the area where
Frankfurt is situated, in the west is Rheingau where they produce
the famous Reisling wines. Also near is the well known resort
of Rudesheim.
North Rhine – Westphalia
Plenty is on offer to the visitor in this region with all the modern
cities such as Bonn, Aachen, Cologne and Düsseldorf. Cologne
with its world famous Gothic Cathedral and Christmas market is
an attractive option especially for those people seeking retail
therapy.
